Accessibility statement

About accessibility

This website is privately operated. This accessibility statement is adapted from the UK Government's guidance document, and is used to ensure that the content being provided on this site is accessible to the greatest number of users possible, in line with our Team Ethos.

This accessibility statement applies to complexinterface.com.

This website is run by the Complex Interface Team. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings

  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen

  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software

  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

The website has been tested in macOS, using Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari.

Design

This website uses consistent headings throughout, descriptive hyperlinks, and alternate descriptions for images. The underlying framework is responsive, allowing the site to be resized without hiding content. It is designed to be compatible with touch interfaces.

Keyboard navigation

Currently, Google Chrome appears to provide the most accessible experience for keyboard navigation.

Firefox users on macOS may need to change their tab focus settings in order to properly navigate this site. Read about how to change the relevant setting.

Safari users on macOS may wish to change their tab focus settings in order to navigate this site. Read about how to change the relevant setting

Some issues with keyboard navigation may occur when the screen size is narrow (i.e. when the primary navigation is hidden).

The website is built upon Material for Mkdocs, where improving accessibilty is an ongoing priority for the developer. We will up-to-date this site the latest versions to incorporate improvements as they are made.

Embedded content

Some pages include embedded iframes, which effectively inserts another webpage inside another. This includes the interactive ELN figure, podcast audio players and the contact map. These have been tested to work with keyboard navigation, with the exception of the ELN figure.
