Dr Emma Stewart

Headshot of Emma Stewart

Research Associate in Cellular Bioelectricity

Emma joined the team in 2025 as a Research Associate, working on the development of models and protcols for interrogating bioelectricity.

Emma's career began with a BSc in Biochemistry with a Year in Industry, spending a year working in the in vitro pharmacology team at Takeda Cambridge, and a final year project with Dr Gareth Evans (University of York) looking at Src kinases.

Emma then completed a PhD in Mechanistic Biology with Professor Dawn Coverley (University of York) looking at mechanisms of epigenetic maintenance in somatic cells, and how these regulatory processes are disrupted in development and disease. Her PhD included a 3 month placement at York St John University teaching on the Biomedical Sciences course, particularly in cell and molecular biology.

Following her PhD, Emma undertook a Teaching & Scholarship post; teaching across a wide range of modules cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and biomedical sciences including supervision of project students.

Following this post, she returned to the laboratory of Professor Dawn Coverley in a post doctoral role funded by the Medical Research Council, continuing her PhD research into epigenetic maintenance and how this is disrupted in early stages of disease.
